The U.S. Supreme Court heard arguments from distinguished authors and publishers on the issue of whether freelance writers are entitled to royalties from the usage of their work in online databases and archives. The authors argue that they are entitled to part of the revenue generated from their labor, but the publishers respond that the authors were paid originally for their work and have no further rights to revenue from it.

Amazon.com announced it will sell personal computers from its online electronics department within months in response to the 77% rise in Internet computer sales from brick-and-mortar stores this last year. Amazon also entertained investors at a Seattle presentation with the hope of being profitable by their fourth quarter, with British and German operations coming close. The company will avoid inventory and contract with a computer distributor, which will ship directly to customers.
