The World Trade Organization (WTO) ruled that Canada's 80% tax on split-run magazines violates international trade laws. The WTO also struck down postal subsidies for Canadians publications. The Canadian publishing industry is now seeking other ways to protect against US competition.

Stirring up a batch of trouble: B.C. breweries push for a clampdown on do-it-yourself beer stores

Article Abstract:

British Columbia commercial brewers complain that U-brew shops violate rules against employees making beer, and are unfairly escaping provincial taxes. There are around 350 make-your-own beer and wine shops in BC. Ontario imposed a tax on theses types of shops in 1993.
