A Canadian war correspondent recounts the sea assault by allied forces against Sicily, Italy, on Jul 10, 1943. He describes the troops landing, the ensuing battles and how the Sicilian people reacted to the invasion. A longer version of this account was originally printed in 'Macleans' magazine in 1943.

My father, the liberator

Article Abstract:

Sgt Ben Abel served with distinction in Canada's Timber Wolves unit, which was a forward-deployed detachment in the European theater in 1994-45. Abel has always been forthcoming about his military exploits, but some other Canadian veterans have kept their war stories hidden from their families.
