Airline warns against strike

US Airways Inc has announced that the airlines will stop operations on Mar 25, 2000, if its fails to reach a contract with its flight attendants union, Assn of Flight Attendants, before then. Airline officials believe that this is a better alternative, in case negotiation with the union fails, than to operate in conditions when stewards and stewardess will walkout from their jobs unannounced anytime.

Amtrak will take paper airline tickets if US Airways strikes

Amtrak will accept US Airways passengers if US Airways shuts down on Mar 25, 2000. US Airways has threatened to lock out its flight attendants if the union fails to reach an agreement with the airline. Amtrak intends to take up the slack by 24 cars, or around 1,500 seats a day, to its Northeast Corridor service, which links New York, Washington and Boston. Amtrak, however, will not accept US Airways electronic tickets.

United warns of earnings slowdown

Article Abstract:

United Air Lines Inc has warned investors of lower-than-expected earnings for 2000. The airline, which made the announcement on Jul 19, 2000, blamed its revised forecast to cancellations and delayed flights as well as increases in aviation fuel costs. United, whose warning caused a decline in the valuation of its parent's share prices at the stock market, has experienced an overtime refusal by a number of its pilots since mid-Apr 2000, and is currently facing a work slowdown by some of its machinists.
