Alcohol advertising: should liquor be advertised on radio and TV?

Article Abstract:

Controversy exists on whether hard alcoholic drinks should be advertised on radio and television. The liquor industry had maintained a voluntary ban on broadcasting ads for 60 years, but in 1996 the Distilled Spirits Council of the US said it would drop the ban. The council is looking to boost declining industry revenues, and notes that beer and wine ads are already allowed on TV. Pres Bill Clinton's administration criticized the council, but reaction among the media was mixed. New media outlets are also developing for such ads, as on the Internet and cable TV.

Alternative medicine's next phase; are unconventional treatments joining the mainstream?

Article Abstract:

Alternative medicine has become accepted by American consumers, and is also gaining attention in the mainstream of medicine. In 1992, the National Institutes of Health began its Office of Alternative Medicine, which grants research funds to ten medical centers. One survey shows that Americans may make more visits to alternative healers than to primary care physicians. Medical schools are adding alternative medicine to their curricula, and states are legalizing marijuana for medicinal use.
