Revamped tool helps fliers breathe easier

Article Abstract:

A team of engineers from Torrance, CA-based Honeywell Engines and Systems who created a device to remove ozone from the cabin air of Boeing 777 aircraft needed to reengineer it to extend its life span. As a result, their efforts not only extended the life span of the device from one to more than three years, but also saved a $20-million business. Their efforts also created another $10 million in business since the device is now used on other types of aircraft. Their achievement has also transformed the company into a model for problem resolution in the eyes of aircraft maker Boeing Co.

Airline lifts restrictions on advance purchase requirements

Article Abstract:

American Trans Air has abolished advance purchase requirements and minimum stays on its tickets. The move is considered as revolutionary in the airline industry. Its objective is to make a bid for more business travel since lifting restrictions makes its fares more appealing to business travelers whose trips are often planned on short notice. The change will be closely watched but is unlikely to catch on with the majors.
