Travel up despite fare hike

Article Abstract:

Major airlines, including Northwest Airlines Inc, Continental Airlines Inc and Southwest Airlines Co, are reporting more passenger traffic in Mar 2000 compared to that of the previous year. The number of airline passengers surprisingly increased despite successive fare increases happening in Jan and Feb 2000. The rise in passenger traffic is found to be caused by the spread of Internet discounts offered by airlines through e-tailers or through their websites.
