Article Abstract:
Air Canada is turning its Aeroplan frequent-flier unit into a separate division and considering making it a public company. The airline expects that Aeroplan, as a new division, will be able to use the purchasing power of its members to generate higher revenue through additional partnerships with businesses. The new division will create about 400 additional jobs across Canada, including 300 call-center positions between 50 and 60 management and supervisory positions. The division will launch a virtual shopping center where customers would be able to earn Aeroplan miles. The division is expected to increase its revenue beyond the $400-million generated in 1999 by Aeroplan and Canadian Plus combined.
