Trade surplus posts big fall

Canada posted its largest trade surplus decline in nearly a year during the April 2003 period. The country's trade surplus dropped to 4.1 billion Canadian dollars, a fall of 1.2 billion Canadian dollars.

A rebound by the key auto sector led to a surge in Canada's trade surplus in February 2004, due to the recovery of imports and exports a month earlier. A strengthening global economy and soaring commodity prices boosted the export sector while the strong dollar led to the rise in imports.
