American Broadcasting Compaines (ABC) Chmn Bob Iger has been appointed as president and COO of Walt Disney Co in Jan 2000. Iger will help Walt Disney CEO Michael Eisner in trying to boost the company's sales and revenue, which have been in a financial slump since 1998. Iger's bold managment style, which successfully advanced Walt Disney-owned ABC, is said to complement that of Eisner.

Patricia Fili-Krushel is moving to Internet health care company Healtheon/WebMD after resigning as president of Walt Disney's ABC-TV network. Healtheon/WebMD is a provider of health information to consumers, physicians and others in the health care industry. She would oversee the planning and content of the company's Web site as well as its media operations. The company is a 50-50 joint venture with Rupert Murdoch's News Corp and TV Health Network. Fili-Krushel used to be the highest- ranking female executive in TV broadcasting during her stint as president of ABC-TV.

Time Warner Inc on May 1, 2000 at 12:01 a.m. blacked out ABC-owned stations on cable systems because of dispute over fees with Walt Disney Co. For more than 38 hours, the network's programming was blacked out to around eight million cable viewers in New York, NY; Los Angeles and Fresno, CA; Houston, TX; Raleigh-Durham, NC; Toledo, OH; and Philadelphia, PA. Although the dispute is not yet settled, the two companies agreed to continue cable carriage until Jul 2000.
