42,000 new jobs created last month

Statistics Canada has released a new jobs report for 1999 that reveals the country's unemployment rate remained stable at 6.9 percent. The report, which also showed that 42,000 jobs were created in Canada during December 1999, found that 355,000 jobs were created for the entire year of 1999.

Trade surplus climbs 1.4% in November

Statistics Canada has issued a new report that shows Canada's trade surplus rose by 1.4% in November while the U.S. trade deficit hit record levels. The report revealed that exports of energy and high technology products contributed to Canada's $31.35 billion in November exports.
