42,000 new jobs created last month

Statistics Canada has released a new jobs report for 1999 that reveals the country's unemployment rate remained stable at 6.9 percent. The report, which also showed that 42,000 jobs were created in Canada during December 1999, found that 355,000 jobs were created for the entire year of 1999.

Economy ekes out small gain in May

Article Abstract:

Industry analysts reported that the Canadian economy grew slightly in May 2003 as the gross domestic product rose 0.1 per cent. The report from Statistics Canada was better than analysts had expected but analysts still said that economic output may have declined in the second quarter.

Inflation hits 9-year high of 3.6% on 'smokes and gas'
