4 of 5 HealthSouth Executives Spared Prison Terms
Article Abstract:
US District Court for Birmingham, AL Judge Inge P. Johnson sentenced five HealthSouth executives for their participation in a $2.7 accounting fraud scheme. One of the five, Emery Harris, a former assistant controller, received five months in prison and three years' probation. The other four got four years' probation with six months' home detention plus a $2,000 fine and $235,000 in restitution for one of the four, Rebecca Kay Morgan. Prosecutors plan to appeal the sentences because they believe that the employees did not stop their involvement in the fraud in 2002 and continued to help with a cover-up until the accounting violations were exposed in Mar. 2003.
