360networks, Alcatel to link cable network to Japan

Vancouver, BC-based 360networks and France's Alcatel S.A. have formed a strategic alliance to construct a fiber optic network that will link Japan and North America. The $1.6 billion transpacific network agreement includes a plan for Alcatel to buy a 5% stake in 360networks.
