Iridium's new satellite phone service will allow an individual to place a call from anywhere to any place on Earth. The phones, manufactured by Kyocera of Japan and Motorola, use a $5-billion communication system composed of 66 satellites in outer space and 12 relay stations on Earth to allow clients to communicate from anywhere on the planet. The satellite phone, available for a price ranging from nearly $3,000 to $4,000, will also be capable of utilizing the cellular phone network of almost every country in the world.

E Ink of Cambridge, MA, a spin off of Massachusetts Institute of Technology, said it will debut its electronic ink in a number of JC Penney stores. The company's electronic ink works like real ink on paper or a similarly thin display, but the ink can be changed just like letters on a computer screen. JC Penney's store in Marlborough, MA, will be the first outlet to use the electronic ink sign, which is approximately as thick as the brim of a baseball cap. ;;
