Article Abstract:

The dispute over state rights between the federal Liberal party government of Australia and the eight state and territory Labor Party governments, is described. The federal government wants to abolish state industrial relations systems, replace it with a single national system, and curtail the freedom with which the states spend their revenue from the GST.

Article Abstract:

Australian Prime Minister, John Howard, has to take his coalition senators in confidence for major decisions during the spring session of the parliament. The changes made to industrial laws and the Telstra sale deed had caused misunderstanding among the senators.
