Article Abstract:
Army Chief of Staff Gen Eric K. Shinseki has outlined his vision of lighter, 5,000-man Army brigades built around smaller, more deployable wheeled vehicles and lighter tanks. These combat-ready brigades would be able to mobilize within days rather than weeks. However, Shinseki's program already duplicates existing Marine Corps programs and competes for the same strategic airlift requirements already earmarked for Air Force and Marine Corps rapid deployment needs. The national interest will be better served by maximizing the use of existing capabilities especially at a time when the Army is already struggling to address various problems.

The Tactical Air Command Center (TACC), the senior agency of the Marine air command and control system, must always be kept state of the art, flexible and scalable in order to ensure that the Marine air-ground task force aviation combat element is interoperable with all of the service's joint/combined air command and control equipment. TACC, with the solid collaboration of the Marine Corps Systems Command and the Operating Forces, has been transformed into a world-class air command system.
