Sri Lanka returns to war

Article Abstract:

The Sri Lankan civil war has restarted after four years of intermittent ceasefire, and both sides seem committed to a full and possibly conclusive military campaign. There is an evident shift in operations within the war as the LTTE was brought into more open conflict with the government, and despite the best efforts of the Norwegian mediators and suggestions in early October 2006 that talks could resume by the end of the month, no political will exists on either side to return to the negotiating table.

Article Abstract:

Sri Lanka's security situation continues to worsen as the ethnic separatists Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) are waging a low-level conflict in the north of the country. The LTTE appears to have accepted, and even encouraged, a return to conflict amid a shifting strategic goal of controlling a smaller homeland.

Tamil tigers face tough choices in wake of tsunami

Article Abstract:

The Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) were making clear signs that a resumption of armed conflict was on the agenda just before the tsunami struck Sri Lanka in December 2004. The question regarding whether the tsunami is likely to have changed the LTTE position is examined.
