The third-generation Globemaster or C-17 is emerging as the best choice of several countries to boost their forces at home and abroad. For instance, Boeing is courting the British short term strategic airlift contract, or the STSA, wherein four C-17s will be leased to fill Britain's needs for increased strategic mobility capacity. The C-17s, which are designed to spend 40% of its flight life in low-level high speed missions, are being considered by the US Department of Defense to be Special Ops aircraft to replace the C-141s.
