Article Abstract:

The Navy is constantly striving to educate the public on the ocean as the Navy's working environment and the importance of preserving US freedom of navigation on domestic and international waters. As the 21st century appraoches, the Navy is tasked with doing whatever is required to enable effective operations under all weather and ocean conditions. Thus, the naval oceonographer program is composed of five major categories. These are astrometry, precise time and time interval, oceanography, meteorology, and geospatial information and services. The disciplines of astronomy and hydrography are found within these five major categories.

Article Abstract:

President George W. Bush's authorization to mobilize the ready reserves of the nations forces resulted in the Naval Reserves, Marine Corps Reserve and Coast Guard Reserve reporting to active duty after the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks on the twin towers. Nearly 10,000 Naval reserves, 5,000 Marine Corps reserves and 2,771 Coast Guard reserves were mobilized and had reported for active duty.
