Propeller-driven trainer aircraft are experiencing a revival due to the cost benefits of using such aircraft. For instance, the Grob G115T with a reciprocating engine costs around $300,000, while the Raytheon T-6A turboprop sells for about $3 million, and a British Aerospace Hawk trainer appears to cost over $15 million. The lower-end 120-kW category piston-driven aircraft are typified by the Slingsby T67M-160 Firefly, while the 135-kW category is represented by the Grob G115-D1. The lower-end turboprop engine category is dominated by the Allison Model 250 series, while the middle-range is dominated by Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6 series.

The United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Belgium and Turkey are being buoyed to develop their own transport aircraft in light of the fact that leading European powers have great purchase requirements. This seems to surface even if US aircraft makers such as Boeing Co and Lockheed Martin Corp currently dominate the market for military transport. Observers believe that a strong political will is needed to make a new European transport a reality.

Currently, the militaries are upgrading their systems to boost the effectiveness against ballistic missiles.
