Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Co has commissioned the services of a team led by Lockheed Martin Naval Electronics and Surveillance Systems (LM NE and SS) to integrate the warfare systems in the Nimitz-class nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, CVN 77. LM NE and SS is required to link the sensors, armament, communications, aircraft-control systems and the ship's other electronics and avionics systems into one netted interoperable system. Linking of the warfare systems was initiated to improve the ship's warfighting capabilities and reduce the manpower required to operate the ship.

The Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS Mustin (DDG 89), which is built by Northrop Grumman Ship Systems, was commissioned in the U.S. Pacific Fleet at Naval Air Station North Island, California. The Mustin honors a family of U.S. Navy officers whose service spanned more than a century.

The National Steel and Shipbuilding Co. (NASSCO), a General Dynamics company is expected to deliver for the fourth and fifth Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo/ammunition ships (T-AKEs) by 2007 under the $578 million Naval Sea Systems Command contract. The new, 689-foot-long logistics ships would replace ammunition ships and combat stores ships serving in the fleet and be able to transport 7,000 metric tons of dry cargo.
