Iraq war prompts debate over Russian military reform

Article Abstract:

The Russian Academy of Military Sciences devoted conference to the war in Iraq, which was symptomatic of the fact that for many years there was little consensus on where Russia's military reform should take its armed force. Russian debate on the war in Iraq and the implications for Russian military reform reflected a broad spectrum of views and highlights the remaining and disagreements between reformists and conservatives.

Second wind for the Russian Kirov class

Article Abstract:

The Russian Navy plans to refit and modernize three former Kirov-class nuclear-powered guided missile cruisers (CGNs) in an effort to improve the country's blue-water capability. The three battle cruisers are the Admiral Ushakov, the Admiral Nakhimov and the Admiral Lazarev. The repair and the upgrade of the Kirov-class battle cruisers will be financed through public contribution.
