Pilkington Optronics Ltd, based in Glasglow, UK, will supply the Hongkong Marine police its Cyclops maritime surveillance systems under a contract it won after extensive period of trials and evaluations. Cyclops is a newly developed system considered to be suitable for shipborne and coastal surveillance. It is also part of a family of electro-optical surveillance systems that offers a passive surveilance capability for vessels involved in the prevention of illegal immigration, antiterrorism missions, protection of economic zones, drug interdiction, and general coast guard duties.

Raytheon Co's Electronic Systems Division in El Segundo, CA, has been selected by Boeing Co to develop the Active Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) radar system for the F/A-18E/F Super Hornet strike fighter aircraft. The AESA will be designed to enhance the Super Hornet's air-to- air target detection and tracking range capabilities while adding higher- resolution, air-to-ground mapping modes at longer ranges. It would thus improve the aircraft's ability to effectively target precision weapons.

Article Abstract:
The government of France awarded French sonar systems developer and manufacturer Thomson Marconi Sonar with a new contract in Nov 1999 to provide new sonar systems for the upgrade of the French Navy's Eridan- class Tripartite minehunters. The contract requires Thomson Marconi Sonar to supply 13 new-generation mine-warfare combat systems that will integrate the hull-mounted TSM 2022 Mk3 sonar, propelled variable-depth sonar and mine warfare tactical systems.
