Article Abstract:
The Crusader program faces an uncertain future during the FY 2002 budget deliberations as well as several ongoing defense reviews. The Crusader, which is under development by United Defense LP, is 40-ton, 155mm self- propelled howitzer designed to replace the Army's M109A6 Paladin howitzer. The Army has programmed $11.1 billion in its six-year, Future Years Defense Plan as a down payment toward a future force of 480 Crusader systems, comprising 480 howitzers and 480 re-supply vehicles.

Rep. Henry Hyde stated "with alarm Russia's recent decision to resume and even increase its sales of weapons to Iran, and especially its eagerness to assist Iran's nuclear program. ..." The Congressman went on to express hope that President Bush would express this concern to President Putin.

The U.S. Department of Defense has been examing a new non-lethal laser system that will prevent eye injuries. Safety Harbor, Fla.-based LE Technologies L.L.C. has developed the hand-held laser, which is known as Laser Dazzler, for illuminating targets in a green light.
