Adapting tactical Army leaders and units for joint and expeditionary operations

Article Abstract:

Issues and recommendations for short and long-term changes needed to adapt Army units to the new requirement where the Army would be transformed to become a joint and expeditionary force is discussed. Better training and education in joint warfare and joint operations would have to be undertaken by tactical Army leaders and units.

Gen. Taguba's report describes a difference in culture between the Active Component (AC) and the Reserve Component (RC). Reexamining the assignment of active duty soldiers and the method of selection of its leaders are the two proposals for changing this culture.

American Army needs recognition that cost of doing business demands action to assure the sustaining effort of long war demand. If recognition is postponed, in end there will be no one to accept the blame.
