The Navy League's 2004 Sea-Air-Space (SAS) Exposition in Washington, underscores the strength of the warfighting partnership among the US military services and the cooperative approach to excellence between the defense industry and its customers in the military departments. The SAS is an opportunity for meaningful dialogue with all the parties who have a stake in ensuring America's maritime forces remain strong and equal to the demands of the global war on national security requirements.

Article Abstract:

Foreign area officers (FAOs) of the US military who link US forces to the local populace played a vital role during the US Navy's relief work for victims of the tsunami that hit Southeast Asia in December 2004. Following this and other similar experiences, the US Navy and the Marine Corps are upgrading their FAO programs and creating a distinct corps of foreign area experts who will be offered viable career paths to more fully exploit their talents.

Sixty countries support the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) in an effort to stop shipments of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), their delivery systems and related materials worldwide. The PSI is a departure from past efforts to curb WMD, because the emphasis is on taking action rather than building international bureaucracies and treaty protocols.
