Article Abstract:

BBC head of single drama, George Faber, is to back new talent as part of an initiative to boost the department. The BBC is supporting the initiative with an additional 3 million pounds sterling to be invested in single drama over the next two years. Faber is to give greater freedom to individual producers and writers. A fund of 1 million pounds is to be set up to support new film-making talent.

Money go round: attracting finance in the broadcasting industry is a notoriously difficult process. It demands nerve and endurance

Article Abstract:

Financiers interested in backing the broadcasting industry may want to invest in a particular project, back a company or support the operation of a licence. Banks are unlikely to invest in production but are only keen to in lending money they will get back with interest. However there has been some progress, and there are now three schemes backed by banks, available for financing productions.

Let's get personal: top of the agenda for documentary-makers at Sheffield will be the debate over 'authorship'

Article Abstract:

The issue of authorship is expected to be top of the agenda at the Sheffield International Documentary Festival. Placing a personal signature on documentaries is a sensitive issue and many believes that pursuing a personal style detracts from the proper business of a documentary to tell stories with journalistic objectivity. However others believe that creative control is all important.
