Former TV Times editor Peter Jackson is planning to launch a new TV channel that will specialize in masthead programming. Jackson is currently holding talks with the City to secure digital carriage and financing as well as with British Digital Broadcasting to secure carriage on its new digital terrestrial (DTT) service. Jackson is also believed to have been in negotiations with United News & Media to get carriage on DTT service of SDN. A mixed group of publishers, which Jackson approached prior to Independent Television Commission's decision to relax rules on masthead programming on terrestrial television, has already expressed their support to the initiative.

Michael Colgan, who directs the Blue Angel Films and the Gate Theatre in Dublin, has headed the direction of Samuel Beckett's 19 plays to be aired on Channel 4. His project has brought in the talents of Julianne Moore, Kristin Scott-Thomas, Juliet Stevenson, and Alan Rickman. Channel 4 and RTE have put 800,000 pounds sterling into the productions, while the Irish Film Board and Tyrone Productions have made contributions.
