Broadcasting and cultural identity: the Canadian experience

Article Abstract:

Cultural identity in Canada strongly influences broadcasting choices and reflects distinct communication and culture preferences of the Anglophone and Francophone audiences. American and American-influenced programs are widely popular in English-speaking provinces but fail to find an audience in the French-speaking province of Quebec. Broadcasting leaders should consider culture and language differences in all aspects of media and programming.

Article Abstract:

This article examines the management of the Korean broadcasting industry, and efforts by Korean citizens to reform the media and contribute to watchdog organizations. Issues discussed concern the political activity of television viewers in Korea since the 1980s.

Television audiences in China have no official way to effect broadcasting policy or cultural policy, but they do excerpt some influence with their viewing choices. The impact of viewers of the Chinese serial 'Yi di jimao' ('Chicken Feathers') is examined.
