Article Abstract:

The significance of economic constraints on the organization of advertising agencies, the constraints imposed upon advertising production because of the conventions of media buying and the changes in the marketing by manufacturers in Japan are discussed. The way in which the advertising agencies will resolve the dilemma between presenting themselves as the professionals in strategic communications services and insisting on the commission system will further affect the quality of the commercials and media culture.

Fashioning a cosmopolitan Tamil identity: game shows, commodities and cultural identity

Article Abstract:

The idea of having major game shows on the regional language cable channels was ignored for quite some time, but the trend has changed and the commodity culture which influences the game shows allows restructuring of the national politics. An argument that the motility of television genre permits the formation of a cosmopolitan sensibility even as it facilitates the reinscription of vernacular nationalisms is presented.
