Article Abstract:
Virgin Digital Studio (VDS) has appointed Ray Adams, a former managing director of film laboratory Soho Images, as the managing director of West-1. Adams, whose appointment completed a worldwide management restructuring being implemented by VDS, will be holding the job formerly occupied by Less Austin who left VDS in July 1998. Adams, who also served as managing director of Universal Film & Video before joining Soho Images, stated he intends to introduce some changes at West-1 but declined to specify where those developments may eventually lead.

Content providers are coming up with a new generation of services designed to tempt users with fast Internet connections. Discovery Broadband is planning to extend its reach to pay TV avenues and if this is a success and services from NTL stay on track towards predicted subscriber numbers, then other content owners and providers will follow the same.

An in-depth survey was conducted by Broadcast to see if the U.K Film Council needed rationalisation to survive. The findings of the survey are highlighted which show that it will last for the next 30 years despite predictions of an early demise.
