Court orders state board to ignore sunshine law in testimony before federal monitoring committee

Article Abstract:

The US Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit ruled in In re Kansas City Star Co. that attendance at a federal agency meeting by the Kansas City, MO School District Board of Directors did not implicate the Missouri Sunshine Act. The periodic meetings with the Desegregation Monitoring Committee was pursuant to a court order. Since the meetings were ordered by a federal court, the state law did not apply. The 8th Circuit noted that the monitoring court must ensure that the meetings are limited to discussions of issues dictated by the continuing desegregation order.
