The details and realistic qualities of science fiction artist Jim Burns' works are inspired by the manuscripts which he reads thoroughly. Burns, who dropped out from flying school, studied graphic design and illustration in London, UK. Burns received the Hugo Awards in 1985 and 1995.

Author Wil McCarthy began seriously writing science fiction when he was 16, and by the time he turned 30, in 1996, he had published two science fiction novels. He believes writing about aliens is beneficial to the genre.
