Article Abstract:
Parallel interconnection agreements are one of the most tackled issues among local exchange carriers. Although the Federal Communications Commission has set up rules for levying interconnection charges, industry members have suffered from monopolistic pricing arising from such agreements. One of the possible approaches that can be adopted in addressing the problem is the implementation of an efficient component pricing rule. Under this rule, an entrant must pay the marginal cost of interconnection services and foregone profits to a particular carrier.
