Cross ownership of wireline and wireless communications carriers: synergy or collusion?

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to analyze whether the cross ownership of wireline and wireless communications carriers is socially beneficial or harmful, and therefore should be allowed or regulated. The welfare consequences of cross ownership in different industry situation along with some policy implications and examples are presented.

The fragmentation of America's telecommunications system: the operational implications of network unbundling

The evolution of telecommunication industry in the United States from monolithic to competitive is studied. It shows how the resulting network unbundling differs from all previous network separations and identifies the operational risks of the various 'unbundled network elements'.

The Telecommunication Act of 1996 was intended to act as a comprehensive national policy for local exchange competition. To assess the effect of the Act incremental capital market returns for nineteen carriers were measured.
