International arbitration institutions such as the American Arbitration Association and the International Federation of Commercial Arbitration Institutions play a key role in the international arbitration process. A crucial principle of international arbitration is party autonomy. Institutions support this principle, but also act to make sure negotiations do not become stalled. Rules provided by institutions can also ensure that parties with little financial resources are guaranteed equal treatment.
