International anti-trust cooperation: wave of the future

Article Abstract:

Competition authorities have in the past focused mainly on national concerns of competition, but international concerns are becoming increasingly common due to economic globalisation. The US and EU now mainly adopt a cooperative relationship on competition, with acrimony rarely occurring. Increased global trade allows companies to undertake anti-competitive practices more easily, but this is being tackled by co-ordinated international enforcement agreements. The European Commission is seeking global compliance via a multilateral competition agreement and improved bilateral agreements.

One market, one money, one law

Article Abstract:

It is vital that the European Union establishes a single body of law if a single market and a single currency are to be really successful. The existence of many separate legal systems within the European Union has a very negative impact on trading opportunities and leads to unnecessarily high business costs. The European Commission should consider establishing a single body of European Union company, contract, patent, insolvency and procedural laws.
