Bringing litigation inside can help curb costs

Article Abstract:

The use of in-house counsel in litigation is more cost-effective than hiring outside counsel. The proximity and familiarity of in-house attorneys and their clients results in better communications and a higher quality of preparation. However, for in-house counsel to do good work, they must be allowed to define their own limits. A successful litigation conducted by corporate counsel can cut costs and establish a better relationship between a legal department and management.

When choosing among firms, look for efficiency

Article Abstract:

Corporate law departments in need of outside counsel should develop criteria for selecting the most efficient firm. The business practices of an outside firm should be carefully scrutinized. The relationship between fees and hours of work, computer use, utilization of legal services, monitoring of case costs and availability of specialists are important factors in determining a firm's efficiency.
