Article Abstract:

Stenberg v. Casey will mark the first hearing of the abortion issue in the Supreme Court since the landmark Planned Parenthood of Southeastern Pennsylvania v. Casey in 1992. Stenberg is a challenge to a Nebraska law barring the use of a particular abortion method, not a case involving state attempts to regulate a woman's decision to have an abortion as were the other cases since the 1973 Roe ruling.

Issues are discussed regarding signs, as evidenced by statements of the justices, that the US Supreme Court's abortion jurisprudence is moving to the right. In Stenberg v. Carhart, handed down in June 2000, the court struck down a Nebraska law banning partial birth abortions used after the fourth month of pregnancy.

Americans aid Irish lawyers in abortion case

Article Abstract:

Georgetown University law professor David Cole will represent two Dublin, Ireland clinics in a European Court of Human Rights case challenging Ireland's restriction on abortion counseling. Cole will argue on Mar 24, 1992 that the prohibition on discussion of available abortions in England is a violation of free speech under the European Convention on Human Rights. Cole's Irish colleagues will argue the rule invades privacy and is vague. Ireland has agreed to abide by decisions of the Court, but the Court has no power to compel it to do so.
