ABA '92: feminism is theme; Anita Hill, abortion take center stage

Article Abstract:

Feminism and gay rights were favored topics at the 1992 ABA Convention. Anita Hill and Hillary Clinton were featured speakers. The ABA House of Delegates passed a pro-choice resolution by a margin of 276 to 168 and also approved a constitutional amendment making the National Lesbian and Gay Law Assn an affiliated organization qualifying for a voice in the House of Delegates. Other subjects covered included punishment for computer crimes and attorney advertising.

ABA convention steers clear of most controversy

Article Abstract:

The ABA's annual convention for 1993 was a congenial affair. Attorneys from around the nation were on their best behavior in light of increased lawyer-bashing. The group's pro-abortion rights policy was questioned, but no changes in policy were made. Clinton's inclusion of women and minorities in his judicial appointments was greeted with cheer at the Women in the Profession's luncheon. Janet Reno was well-received throughout the convention.

Controversy tops the bill; the ABA features some new attractions and a long-running drama

Article Abstract:

The ABA's 1993 annual meeting in New York will feature another instalment in the membership debate over the association's pro-abortion stance. This instalment will include a mail referendum on members' rights to decide if the pro-abortion rights policy should be kept. Other items on the agenda include the apportionment of representation among the bar's governing bodies, recommendations for health care reform and for environmental justice.
