American Arbitration Association (AAA) President William K. Slate II comments on the future of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) and his role as president of AAA. ADR will become more accessible to individuals and more people will learn about its advantages. Lawyers will become more adept at ADR. Arbitral law may be developed. ADR will be used in the global marketplace. Slate's role is to gather information from the ADR community and communicate it to the general public.

Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) will grow in popularity during the 21st century. ADR use will increase for construction, industry and technology. Law schools will incorporate ADR instruction into curriculums. Mediation and arbitration may become professional life skills. Certification of mediators and arbitrators may be considered. Litigation will remain important, but ADR is a first-class form of justice.
