The Anglo-American invasion and occupation of Iraq must be understood in the context of the grand strategy consistently pursued by the U.S. since the beginning of the 20th century. The Bush administration is seeking to use its military supremacy to perpetuate a favorable global balance of forces and is expecting that the seizure of Iraq would enhance US capacity to deny access to Middle Eastern oil to potential rivals.

The US has complete dominance over broader globalising forces in Iraq after it physically occupied Iraq, installed a government, and passed a raft of legislation by decree. The interaction of forces such as imperialism and global governance is generating sometimes competing and sometimes reinforcing effects that are highly contingent and continue to be contested.

Article Abstract:
The international community should exercise a right to protect through the UN in order to protect vulnerable populations at risk from internal state wars and human rights abuse. The military and humanitarian operations should be separated to avoid the problems experienced in Iraq and leave the leadership of relief to the dedicated international agencies.
