The new technology wave

Article Abstract:

The insurance industry is moving toward network computing, open-systems architectures, computer-aided software engineering design and more specific software development methods. These features will afford standardized methods for accessing information and less reliance on specific software vendors. The greatest impediment to implementation will be resistance from systems administrators. Insurers can successfully overcome this resistance by adopting a seven-step approach, beginning by stressing the need for change and ending by defining business goals.

On the cutting edge of service

Article Abstract:

In June of 1992, the United Farm Bureau insurance companies installed the Client Account Review Evaluation system. This computer-based system has improved customer service by allowing the agent to examine a customer's status across all product lines, something that was difficult to do previously. The system also allows for easier analysis of current and potential customer markets. All policies, company publications and rate manuals are now printed under the new system.

Image systems expand beyond service

Article Abstract:

Imaging systems help insurers improve customer service and increase productivity. Insurance companies such as USAA have been able to decrease paperwork and lower their paper storage needs.
