Insurers are faced with an ever increasing roster of claims issues aside from traditional natural catastrophes such as earthquakes or hurricanes. Emerging issues include product liability claims concerning the health hazards of latex gloves, issues on sexual harassment, construction flaws and electronic communication. Insurance firms can rely on its own claim data bases on past cases to view histories and take appropriate action to avert possible legal setbacks.

Article Abstract:
The more liberalized worldwide economic order that resulted from the culmination of the seven-year Uruguay Round of talks on the GATT has led many US-based reinsurers to venture into foreign markets. Setting the standard when it comes to a deregulated insurance industry is the EC, followed closely by Mexico, Canada and China. However, trade barriers continue to hinder reinsurers' efforts to start operations in some countries.
