Whole life dividend histories

Article Abstract:

The 1987-1997 dividend histories of 54 policies and the 1977-1997 dividend histories of 53 policies are analyzed to identify the companies which have maintained strong track records. Only five companies were not able to meet their 1977 projections due to the unexpected high returns during the 1980's. However, only four companies were able to meet their 1987 projections. Fraternal company indexes are included and all dividend history rankings are based on the 5% interest-adjusted payment and surrender cost indexes to provide the relative value of a policy.

Insurance company rating agencies: a description of their methods and procedures

Article Abstract:

Five firms rate the financial condition of insurance companies: AM Best Company Inc, Standard and Poor's Corp, Moody's Investors Service Inc, Duff and Phelps Inc and Weiss Research Inc. The objectives and procedures of these firms are basically similar. However, they occasionally disagree on a particular company's rating. These difference arise from the particular financial ratios used for quantitative analysis and the subjective judgement involved in qualitative analysis, as well as from differences in rating philosophy.

Insurance company rating agencies: a description of their methods and procedures

Article Abstract:

Insurance companies are monitored by five different rating companies that issue reports on their financial health. The National Association of Insurance Commissioners studied these five agencies and published a 50-page report on their methods and practices. A summary of that report outlines operations of AM Best Company, Standard and Poor's, Moody's Investors Service, Duff and Phelps, and Weiss Research.
