Discrimination suit raises the stakes

Muriel Kraszewski's discrimination suit against State Farm General Insurance Co will have a wide effect on hiring and job recruiting practices. The judgment on the 1979 suit, which proceeded as a class action suit, resulted in the plaintiffs being rewarded with $157 million based on violations of Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act. The judgement was based on the systematic discrimination of women that prevented them from achieving positions in sales and management. Securing museum coverage

Article Abstract:

Museums and other cultural institutions should purchase insurance broad and flexible enough to cover all loss contingencies. Policies should cover transit of loaned collections. They should supplement traditional replacement cost valuation with agreed valuation since many objects might be irreplaceable. They should also provide for the sometimes exorbitant cost of restoring damaged historic structures in which artifacts are housed. Business interruption insurance is a must since loss of a collection threatens a museum's very livelihood.

Article Abstract:

Good negotiation skills and a pleasant attitude are important for automobile damage appraisers. To insure that repair costs are not inflated, an appraiser should determine the minimum amount of time it takes to complete each repair task and negotiate from there. He should also insure that he is not being charged for aftermarket or unsuitable parts. Sleight-of-hand attempts by auto shops to exacerbate damage can be handled diplomatically by letting shop managers know that the damage will be handled as two claims.
