Closing the gap in information

Article Abstract:

Motorists Mutual Insurance Co, in collaboration with IBM Consulting, began designing an information system in mid-1991 that would more closely link business goals with computer architecture. The system uses a metamodel based on the science of architectonics. This metamodel consists of a top tier that comprises business and information technology strategies. Below this tier are vertical architectures that subsume business data and technical designs. Linking these architectures vertically and horizontally provides a framework for company planning.
