Answering back: Anderson's critics deliver mixed reviews

Article Abstract:

Insurance representatives are quick to counter Anderson Kill and Olick founder Eugene Anderson's criticisms against the insurance industry. While Anderson believes that insurers do not pay claims in the hope that claimants will not put up with the cumbersome process, senior partner at Epstein Becker & Green David E. Manoogian contends that laws and regulations compel insurers to pay claims. Anderson also criticizes the mind-set among insurers that people are always trying to commit fraud. Manoogian disputes this, saying there will always be some who will try to take advantage of the system.

A matter of perspective

Article Abstract:

Vincent Laurenzano made a major career move from insurance regulator to insurance financial consultant for law firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan. His 33-year legacy as asst deputy superintendent at the NY Insurance Dept earned him the praise and affection of former colleagues and the industry. He decided to accept the job at Stroock & Stroock because of a chance to introduce novel ideas and solve problems in the field of insurance. Despite his move to the private sector, Laurenzano is still a firm believer in the regulation of insurance at the state level.
