A woman's place

Article Abstract:

Women note an increasing acceptance of them as integral and influential members of the insurance industry. However, while there are more women in entry and mid-level positions, very few can be found in the top echelons of insurance firms. This may also be changing, though, as professional advancement is increasingly based on qualifications rather than on networking and relationships. A number of factors will also help push women through the industry's 'glass ceiling,' such as an increasing number of women customers, their ability to listen and communicate and their advantage over men as mentors and role models.

Article Abstract:

The National Assn of Professional Insurance Agents and the Independent Insurance Agents of America came up with a report entitled 'Will Your Agency Survive the Year 2000 Crisis?' which offers guidance to insurers about dealing with the year 2000 problem. The paper illustrates how insurers can protect themselves and also has a list of questions which they can ask computer software firms, metered utilities and wide area networks.

Finding the right agent can stop the revolving door

Article Abstract:

Life insurance companies are plagued by high turnover rates. Caliper Human Strategies Inc. conducted a study to determine characteristics of highly successful insurance agents. An ideal ordinary life agent has a high level of assertiveness, a strong sense of urgency, a strong ego drive and above-average empathy, according to the study. Insurance companies should seek candidates who possess these characteristics.
